Ham radio from 78 degrees north: A small adventure!

I operate from the shack of JW5E - the club station in Longyearbyen. This town is the "capital" of Svalbard located 78° 13" N - 15° 40' E. You can rent this club house yourself - just contact the club through their own website. JW is included in the CEPT T/R 61-01 agreement, so no visitor license is required - just put JW/ in front of your full home call. It's easy to operate from Longyearbyen - the only drawback might be the cost of travelling "up there" - and it's quite expensive if you want to see more of Svalbard.

My last trip was in 2002 - so the QSL cards have stopped coming now ;-( I made another trip back in 2000. I guess it's time for another operation - this time with my wife.
